Jay Rock Drops Anthemic, Championship-Fueled New Track “Win”
CEO Top Dawg has hinted that “Win” is Jay Rock’s first salvo from his new album, which comes three years since his last one 90059.
90059 still has some life in my Apple Music rotation, and it has been three years since it first dropped. The Nickerson Gardens progeny, Jay Rock, has been quietly bubbling since then, building up what TDE’s CEO Top Dawg has called “new music and [an] album,” which we hope rivals his last effort. With Rock in the studio and bodying cuts such as “King’s Dead” from Black Panther: The Album, it comes as no surprise that his newest cut sounds like it was inspired by the Bulls’ 1996 legendary 72-9 championship run.
Released at the stroke of midnight, the Watts warrior released a new single called “Win,” which will presumably see life on his forthcoming album, Redemption. Produced by Vinylz & CT, Rock sounds absolutely triumphant over these conquering hero-sounding horns and trumpets. It’s no question that Rock comes with the lyrics, but here he digs deep in his bag, riffing about being a true “winner” in the rap game,” and flexing his style with some impressive wordplay.
Pulitzer Kenny even gets in on the mix giving some cool ad-libs throughout the record that spice up the anthemic cut even more.
“For those who [have] been waiting I appreciate yo’ [patience]. #TDE “U either with me or against me hoe,” Jay Rock said in an Instagram post announcing the track’s release.
“Win” is now available for your ears enjoyment on Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, Soundcloud, and wherever else you consume your music at. Take a listen above and let us know what you think of the song by hitting us up on Twitter @Okayplayer.
