Jay Electronica Defends Nick Cannon's Anti-Semitic Comments with Anti-Semitic Rant

The Written Testimony  rapper referred to a world-renowned Rabbi as a "coward" and a "devil" in a storm of anti-semitic tweets on Saturday night.

Jay Electronica is once again catching the ire of the internet after attempting to defend Nick Cannon's anti-semitic comments with his own anti-semitic rant.

Reacting to Cannon's recent interview with Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the rapper took to Twitter Saturday night to call the Rabbi a "coward" and a "devil," claiming Cooper lied to the former Wild n' Out host about "the history of the Caucasian race." In subsequent tweets, Electronica demanded Cooper sit down with Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam to defend widely-acknowledged and not-so-secretive histories of Jewish and white people. From there, Jay went on to post a well-circulated video of Farrakhan referring to Jews as the enemy of the NOI. The same clip was sampled on his long-delayed and mostly self-produced debut album, A Written Testimony, which was released at the top of 2020 with myriad features from JAY-Z.

Cannon has yet to respond to Jay's comments, but in the week following his controversial interview with Professor Griff, in which Cannon propped up the ex-Public Enemy rapper's anti-semitic conspiracies, the host issued an apology. In a lengthy statement posted to Twitter, Cannon wrote that his remarks "reinforced the worst stereotypes of a proud and magnificent people and I feel ashamed of the uninformed and naïve place that these words came from."

For Jay's part, it's hardly the first time the rapper's been charged with anti-Semitism. When A Written Testimony landed in March, Electronica came under fire for a reference to "the synagogue of Satan" in the closing lines of "Ghost of Soulja Slim," (the very song that sampled the aforementioned Farrakhan speech.") Hot97's Pete Rosenberg called the rapper out for the line and, at one point, even suggested Jay have it out with him on-air. The rapper never accepted Rosenberg's invite.
