J. Cole just dropped the video for his latest song, “Middle Child.”
The T-Minus-produced track marks the Dreamville rapper’s first official solo single since 2013. As of now, it’s Cole’s highest charting song, debuting at no. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The video sees Cole transition from a morgue to a cabin to a supermarket, in scenes and scenarios laden with symbolism.
On Monday, the rapper shouted out the video’s director and fellow North Carolina native, Mez, on Twitter, writing, “straight out south side Raleigh… rapper and now incredible director.”
“Middle Child” marks Cole’s first solo single since 2013. In the past few months, he’s teamed up with 21 Savage on “a lot” and record label peer, Ari Lennox on “Shea Butter Baby.”

It’s unclear if “Middle Child” will appear on Revenge of the Dreamers III, the forthcoming compilation album Dreamville Records is slated to release in April.
