Grammys 2018: ‘Lion King’ Co-Stars Donald Glover & JD McCrary Demolish “Terrified”
The Lion King co-stars Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) and JD McCrary make the Grammys crowd stand at attention during their performance.
The 60th annual Grammy Awards has been an impressive array of highlights, award wins and performances (we see you, K. Dot). After falling asleep once people started performing after the GOAT Kung-Fu Kenny demolished the stage, Childish Gambino decided to slap the Nyquil out of our hands and get busy with a classic cut from his “Awaken, My Love!” album.
“Terrified,” which is a personal fave of yours truly, was an unexpected surprise as it was debated that ‘Bino would perform “Redbone,” which is also up for a Grammy award. As the Emmy, Golden Globe and Grammy Award-winning performer showed why he’s a legend in this business, he was joined by another extremely gifted talent, JD McCrary.
For those not in the know, McCrary is the precocious, yet powerful vocal who sings at the end of “Terrified,” and was one of only three guests on the album. Channeling his soulful riffs as ‘Bino plays accompaniment, the Granada Hills, California native has gathered a following for his acting (KC Undercover) and triple-threat work as a live performer. The two are even co-stars in the upcoming live Disney version of The Lion King as Gambino plays the adult Simba and JD plays the younger prince of the jungle.
With these two forever connected in song and talent, it is an impressive sight to behold as Donald Glover helps the future generation find its voice. Watch them perform “Terrified” below and share your thoughts with us on Twitter (@Okayplayer).
