Fivio Foreign has learned from experience. Recently stopping by podcast Million Dollaz Worth of Game, the rapper-producer spoke with hosts Gillie Da King and Wallo267 about signing to a questionable contract to Mase‘s RichFish label earlier in his career for $5,000.
The B.I.B.L.E. rapper said he piqued Mase’s interest when the Harlem emcee heard “Blixky Inna Box” featuring Jay Dee and Dee Savv in 2019. When given a RichFish contract, Foreign says he “just signed the s***, immediately,” without a lawyer present.
“The nigga that brought me to him, [Mase] was like, ‘Yo, man. Just sign that shit You buggin,’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, read it.’ He’s like, ‘Alright, just sign it. It’s good.’ So, I just signed it,” Foreign said before adding that the contract was for a measly $5,000.
“That shit hit,” he said. “I thought that shit was going to last until whenever it was going to last. That shit ain’t last two weeks.”
Foreign, who’s still signed to RichFish and Columbia Records said there’s no ill feelings between him and Mase, who claims he went through a similar deal in 1996 with Diddy. The Harlem rapper has alleged that Diddy bought his publishing rights for $20,000 over 25 years ago, to which he released diss track “Oracle 2: Standing on Bodies” in March.
Foreign assured in a Hot97 interview with Peter Rosenberg that Mase owns none of his publishing rights, saying that the contract was for “a production deal.” On Million Dollaz Worth of Fame, he praised Mase for giving him a shot.
“I don’t really be complaining or crying over spilled milk,” Fivio said. “I already made this decision. For me, I’m in a better situation now. He get what he get… But I control my money.”
