Eve & Trina Will Battle It Out in First Female Rap 'Verzuz'

Eve and Trina's Verzuz battle will be the first evening dedicated to female rappers. It follows battles between Snoop Dogg and DMX, Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane plus Redman vs. Method Man.

Like a thief in the night, Verzuz unveiled it’s newest battle between two hip-hop legends Eve and Trina

On Wednesday night, the official Verzuz social media accounts shared the face-off would take place on June 16. This comes after Trina spoke publicly about wanting to go up against a rapper she looks up to: Lil Kim.

Eve and Trina are a fair match, but it’s evident that Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have been paying attention to social media conversations. Both of these names have kept coming up in reference to Verzuz matches that should be explored. Over the years, Trina and Eve have created hits that stick like grits, especially during the late ‘90s and early ‘00s.

This will be the first evening dedicated to female rappers. In the past, battles including Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy, Snoop Dogg and DMX plus Redman and Method Man were met with hundreds of thousands of viewers and support. It’ll be monumental to see these two women receive their flowers.

Eve known as the First Lady of the Ruff Ryders was born in West Philadelphia and began battle rapping at 15. She started her professional career at Dr. Dre’s label Aftermath Entertainment but was later dropped. She went on to sign to Interscope’s imprint Ruff Ryders alongside DMX. Known as a “pitbull in a skirt,” she gained notoriety for her striking personal style and biting bars. During her most notable moments it wasn’t abnormal for her to be seen in high fashion like Fendi, DSquared2 and more. Her debut album Let There Be Eve… Ruff Ryder’s First Lady (1999) her the third female rapper to have a No. 1 album Billboard’s 200 chartWe’re expecting to hear hits like “What Y’all Want,” her first single, “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” with Gwen Stefani, and “Let’s Talk About It.”

On the other end of the spectrum is Trina born in Liberty City, Miami. An appearance on Trick Daddy’s 1998 single “Nann Nigga” was her first breakout moment. But, she was intrinsically tied to Miami’s nightlife from a young age. Slip-N-Slide Records was her home label and with them she created raunchy music subverting masculine tropes that spoke to her flashy life. Her sub-genre within rap: pussy rap was influential to the state of women in hip-hop in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. To this day her debut album Da Baddest Bitch (2000) still holds up. “Pull Over,” “Killin You Hoes,” “Look Back At Me” “Off Glass” and “Da Baddest Bitch” should come up during the battle.

The Eve vs. Trina Verzuz battle is scheduled for June 16 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET. You can watch the event on Instagram and Triller.
