Ella Mai opened up about the rumor that she had singer Jacquees‘ remix of her song “Trip” taken down after it garnered more attention than the original online.
After Jacquees’ “Quemix” had quickly become a fan favorite, it had been taken down from Youtube, and fans suspected Mai made the move out of ill will. But DJ Mustard came to her defense and revealed that he was the one who made the decision to have Jacquess’ remix taken down. (Mai is signed to DJ Mustard’s label 10 Summers Records.)
The UK artist sat down for an interview on Hot 97’s Ebro in The Morning and addressed the controversy, saying, “I don’t play any role. My label made a statement… I don’t want people to think different than the actual situation is.” She added, “people don’t really know the real ins and outs of the industry.”
She explained that “‘Bood’ Up’ had five thousand remixes,” and that “when it comes to someone trying to monetize, then it becomes a different issue on the label side. That’s never going to happen.”
