Drake Salutes Jay-Z and Eminem on a Pair of New Songs

Source: Youtube

The Toronto rapper tours Brooklyn and his hometown in a new clip.

Drake‘s first songs of the year take notes from two hip-hop heavyweights.

Last night, the Toronto rap star shared a pair of singles, “When To Say When” and “Chicago Freestyle,” in a city-slicked clip. The former samples a segment of Bobby Glenn’s “Sounds Like a Love Song” heard in Jay-Z’s “Song Cry” as the video trails his viral (and slightly paranoid) trip to Bed-Stuy’s Marcy housing projects. The back half of the treatment features the latter track, which borrows the hook from Eminem’s 2002 smash, “Superman,” and offers a glimpse at the rapper’s palatial dwellings, capping with a frame of the rapper filling a vault with cash at a very leisurely pace.

PLAYLIST: The Round-Up: Best Songs of The Week – ft. Liv.e, Terrace Martin, Vic Spencer, and More

In Rap Radar interview from earlier this year, Drake announced that a new album was on the way. It’s unclear whether “When to Say When” and “Chicago Freestyle” will be included on the tracklist. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Watch Drake’s new video below and hold tight for his next transmission.
