Drake Returns Fire To Pusha T’s “Infrared” Diss With “Duppy Freestyle”
The OVO head honcho Drake had time to deliver a fiery response to Pusha T’s newly released shade-filled track, “Infrared,” and boy is it a doozy.
The brouhaha between Drake and Pusha T has been entertaining for quite some time now, with the latter sending not-so-subliminal shade at the former on “Infrared,” the closing cut from Push’s new album, Daytona. To all of our surprise, it seemed like Drake had time today to deliver a response of his own with “Duppy Freestyle,” which you can listen to below.
“I’m in shock. The nerve. The audacity,” Drake says, beginning his three-minute-plus return salvo. “Tired of sitting quiet, and helping my enemies eat,” he says after delivering a gut check to Pusha over his “true” relationship with Kanye West. Flaming on like the Human Torch, Drake sends rapid-fire responses to Pusha who he explicitly tells “don’t push me when I’m in album mode.”
Drake also ties in the title of the track, “duppy,” which means “ghost” or “evil spirit,” into Pusha’s age (“You older than the n***a you running behind”) and his dying career (“Please believe your demised will be televised”). He also contorts the line that Pusha hit him with on “Infrared” to make himself sound like it was a whiff by the head of G.O.O.D. Music: “Whoever supposedly making me hits/But ain’t got no hits sounds like they need me/My hooks did it/My lyrics did it/My spirit did it.”
Wow, man, this is going to start some conversations on the e-streets, for real. Drake has been on top of the charts since the year started with “God’s Plan” and “Nice For What,” which both hold the number two and three spots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Drake is also elsewhere with credits on songs like “Look Alive” with BlocBoy JB and “Walk It Talk It” with Migos.
