Dr. Dre Celebrates 30 Years of ‘The Chronic’ By Bringing it Back to Streaming

Dr. Dre is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album, The Chronic, with a 30th anniversary re-release to streaming services.

1992 Dr. Dre classic The Chronic has made a return to major digital streaming services. On Wednesday (February 1), Dre’s first LP was re-released by its original distributor, Interscope Records, accompanied by an exclusive merch collection. The album was temporarily removed from streaming after Snoop Dogg acquired Death Row Records in early 2022, in which Snoop’s landmark 1993 debut Doggystyle was also removed.

“I am thrilled to bring the Chronic home to its original distribution partner, Interscope Records,” Dr. Dre said in a press statement, per Variety. Working alongside my longtime colleagues, Steve Berman and John Janick, to re-release the album and make it available to fans all over the world is a full circle moment for me.”

“Dr. Dre is without a doubt one of the most iconic and groundbreaking artists in the modern era,” said Steve Berman, Vice Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M. He has also used his platform to fuel some very impactful philanthropic efforts that will ensure his legacy is felt for generations to come. Dre’s solo career all started with the ‘The Chronic,’ one of the most celebrated recordings of all time. To have this album at Interscope once again where we work with Dre and his amazing team at Aftermath day in and day out is incredibly gratifying for me personally and all of us at Interscope.”

Released on December 15, 1992, The Chronic peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, with singles including “Nuthin’ But a “G” Thang,” “F*** With Dre Day,” and “Let Me Ride.” In January, the artist reportedly reached a deal to sell his music catalog for over $200 million.
