Donald Glover Sues Glassnote Records Over Unpaid Childish Gambino Royalties

The suit claims breaches of contract and negligence on the part of the label

Childish Gambino isn’t the only thing Donald Glover seems intent to cut ties with in this final summer of touring the moniker.

At the top the year, Glover signed a new deal with RCA, leaving behind Glassnote Records, the boutique independent label that released all three of his albums as Childish Gambino (Camp, Because The Internet, and “Awaken, My Love!”) between 2011 and 2016.

Now, according to Pitchfork, Glover is going after his former label for unpaid royalties. In response to a complaint filed by the label in July claiming Glover’s purported 95% cut of SoundExchange payouts were inaccurate, Glover has returned fire in a suit that states Glassnote owes him more $10,000 in streaming royalties and damages. The suit also claims Glassnote never paid up, retaining the entirety of net SoundExchange royalties.

The legal tiff hasn’t slowed the performer in the least bit, currently taking his This is America tour (declaring it his final under the Gambino alias) to stadiums across the globe, releasing a star-studded animated music video for one of two summer singles, and sending concert-goers two more loosies as direct downloads upon the purchase of a ticket.
