Doja Cat Was Performing in Virtual Rooms at the 2020 MTV VMAs

Doja Cat performed and took home a Moonman at the 2020 Video Music Awards.

On Sunday, August 30th, Doja Cat performed two of her hit singles at the 2020 Video Music Awards. She performed "Say So" — the Nicki Minaj-featured remix would end up becoming Doja's first number 1 of her career — and "Like That," which peaked at 51 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Doja started off the performance by paying homage to the old MTV News segments. She introduced herself then gave a performance in front of a virtual green screen. The performance was colorful — with pink lights shining throughout — and gave off serious science fiction vibes.

Doja Cat was nominated for four VMAs: Song of the Year, Best Direction, Song of the Summer, — all for "Say So" — and the Push Best New Artist award.

Later on in the evening, Doja Cat would end up winning the Push Best New Artist award.

It was a good night for Doja, But It's been a chaotic last few months for the rapper. In addition to controversial accusations regarding her involvement in racial chat rooms, the singer also tested positive for COVID-19. In the fallout from the chat room incident, Nas took a jab at her on his latest single "Ultra Black."

Doja Cat recently revealed that she was going to respond with her own song (sort of.)

"The song that I have coming out is called Nas," she said during an Instagram Live broadcast. "But only if you abbreviate it. It's three words. Abbreviate. Which is funny, it's kinda nice. Because that was before the fact. If you know what I'm talking about, you know what I'm talking about."
