Grammys 2021: Watch Doja Cat Go to the Future During Her “Say So” Performance

Doja Cat performed a unique rendition of her hit “Say So” at the 2021 Grammys.

Doja Cat came into the evening with three Grammy nominations, Best New Artist, Pop Solo Performance, and Record of the Year. And although she will probably go home empty-handed, she still put on a hell of a performance at the 2021 Grammys.

She did a futuristic rendition of her no. 1 smash hit “Say So.” The performance gave off serious Missy Elliott-vibes, as she was dressed in a black robot costume.

“Say So,” is the fifth single from her Hot Pink album, which came out in fall 2019. The song, which was produced by Dr. Luke using the pseudonym Trax, would go on to dominate the year of 2020. The song became a hit on TikTok and it would top the US Billboard Hot 100 after Nicki Minaj appeared on the song’s official remix. (Interestingly, she didn’t mention her current hit, “Streets.”)

As the song was rising in popularity, the rapper caught herself in a controversy. In addition to controversial accusations regarding her involvement in racial chat rooms, the singer tested positive for COVID-19 after downplaying the virus. In the fallout from the chat room incident, Nas took a jab at her on his latest single “Ultra Black.”

Doja Cat rode out the tough moments and is back to making interesting pop culture moments. As long as she stays away from the alt-right chats — and she’s not showing off her feet — she should be good.
