Singer Jacquees recently released the “Trip Remix”— a reworking of breakout R&B star, Ella Mai‘s “Trip,” and the latest “Quemix” addition to his string of remakes.
When Jacquees’ remix began receiving more online attention than the original, he was reportedly forced to remove it from YouTube and SoundCloud.
Though he claims he has not earned money from posting the song, the artist was reportedly sent a cease and desist order to have it pulled from all platforms.
It’s not confirmed whether it’s a case of copyright infringement, or whether Mai’s team, or Interscope —her label— took action.
Jacquees responded to a report on the song being taken down with sad face emojis.
T-Pain also chimed in once fans questioned why Mai’s team would sue Jacquees for remixing one of her songs, and not T-Pain, who famously remixed her hit “Boo’d Up” in July. T-Pain explained that he doesn’t post his remixes onto official streaming services like Apple, Spotify, and Tidal as to avoid any legal issues. Jacquees posted his Mai remix on SoundCloud and YouTube.
Fans shared their own reactions to the remix news as well.
A rep for Mai has not released a statement.
