Today (November 9th) is a national holiday. On this day, in 1993, two of the greatest albums of all time was released: Wu-Tang’s Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and A Tribe Called Quest’s Midnight Marauders.
Obviously, if you’re a hip-hop fan you should be listening to those albums today. And after you play those albums, back-to-back, give this a spin.
DJ Filthy Rich put together an amazing blend tape called A Clan Called Wu: Enter the Marauders. The tape is basically the Wu’s hardcore raps over Tribe’s jazzy production.
Speaking to 2DopeBoyz about the tape, Filthy Rich said:
The intent was not to improve on the originals in any way… that would be impossible, as I consider them both to be perfect bodies of work…Rather, it was about orchestrating a fun concept, and putting a totally new spin on these well-worn classics. The contrast of Wu’s gritty street raps over Tribe’s jazzy production works in a pleasantly unexpected way.
