Safe to say that Denzel Curry wants the Recording Academy to be inclusive of non-commercial acts. On Tuesday (November 15), the full list of nominees for the 65th Annual Grammy Awards were announced, including Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, Future, DJ Khaled and Jack Harlow who were all tapped for Best Rap Album. However, the Melt My Eyez See Your Future rapper wasn’t buying it, immediately calling unfairness against artists like Freddie Gibbs, Saba, Kenny Mason, Kenny Beats and more.
Curry accused the Recording Academy for basing nominations off of artist net worth instead of talent alone. Although he gave praise to Pusha T and Kendrick Lamar, Curry alluded to the other artists being undeserving of the nominations.
As of 2022, Curry has not been nominated for any Grammy category, although he’s released five studio albums. This year, the Florida native released his latest LP Melt My Eyez See Your Future, with guest appearances from Rico Nasty, Robert Glasper, 6lack, JID, T-Pain, Saul Williams and more. Curry’s sixth album, currently titled Designed By Angels does not yet have a release date.
In September, Curry told the Miami New Times that he planned on winning a Grammy for his fifth album.
“I tell my fans all the time: I’m not doing this just to do it, I wanna win a Grammy off this hoe,” he said at the time. “But it feel like I don’t get recognized for what I do, even though I’ve been doing this for a long time.”
Months before, in April, Curry tweeted that he planned on receiving a Grammy this year and if he didn’t he’d “try again.”
