De La Soul Finally Set a Date for Catalog's Streaming Debut

On Tuesday, seminal hip-hop trio De La Soul announced that their full catalog will officially come to streaming services on March 3.

It appears that the wait is over for De La Soul's catalog. Two years after teasing the release of their iconic albums to streaming services, on Tuesday (January 3), the hip-hop trio announced that their back catalog – including their 1989 debut 3 Feet High and Rising, 1991's De La Soul Is Dead, 1993's Buhloone Mindstate and 1996's Stakes Is High – will be available to fans on all streaming platforms beginning March 3. The date also marks the 34th anniversary of 3 Feet High and Rising, which is being pressed as a double album, available on black, magenta and yellow vinyl.

“We can’t believe this day is finally here, and we are excited to be able to share our music with fans, old and new. Golnar, Rell, Faith and the Reservoir team have been great partners in this entire process. We’re grateful that our relationship with them all has enabled this to happen," said De La Soul.

"It's been 20 plus years overdue, but finally, we are here," added group member DJ Maseo.

Acquired by Reservoir Media as part of its acquisition of the Tommy Boy Records catalog, Reservoir will distribute the catalog via its Chrysalis Records. Led by Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Lascelles, the Chrysalis team will embark on a marketing campaign for De La Soul's back catalog, complete with key events and activations. The catalog is preceded by De La Soul's 1989 single "The Magic Number" being featured in the end credits of 2021 Marvel film Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw new popularity amongst Gen-Z fans. The hit single will also have a digital and cassette release on January 13.

The Long Island-raised hip-hop group has released eight albums in total, including The Anonymous Nobody... in 2016, which went on to be nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2017 Grammy Awards.
