Fans in attendance for a recent Madlib concert in San Francisco got quite the surprise when Dave Chappelle and Yasiin Bey showed up unexpectedly during the producer’s set.

The latter showed up first at Madlib’s Noise Pop festival DJ set, offering some semi-freestyles verses and revealing to the audience that he recorded the first verse of the new Black Star album the day before. According to a report from, the rapper even rapped the verse in real time, telling fans “I’m so excited, I don’t even know how to feel. I f**k with the Bay Area.”

Following that, Chappelle arrived after a late set at the Punch Line comedy club, where he joined Bey and Madlib onstage.

“Listen, this is the beginning of a new day. This is the kindest conspiracy,” Chappelle told the crowd. “It don’t matter what anybody says. All we gotta do is commit to being kind to one another.”

From there, Bey and Chappelle passed the mic back and forth between each other, with the former rapping and the latter making jokes while also offering advice. But a standout moment from the performance came toward the end, when Chappelle stage dived into the audience, which was followed by the comedian leading them in a lively rendition of The Fugees’ “Killing Me Softly.”

Earlier this month Bey made another appearance at a Madlib concert, where he revealed that Black Star, the rap duo made up of him and Talib Kweli, was releasing a new album this year.

“New Black Star with Madlib, Talib Kweli, Yasiin, coming soon!” Bey said during a Madlib DJ set in Denver, Colorado. “All Madlib, all day. 2018, Madlib, Black Star. Madlib Black Star.”
