Damon Albarn once had the opportunity to collaborate with Prince prior to his death but didn't — all because of a certain rule the Purple One enforced in his studio.

While speaking with Radio X (via Magic Valley), Albarn spoke about how he was invited to go play with Prince after a performance in Minneapolis but didn't end up going because of a no-smoking rule Prince has.

"...I don't actually smoke anymore as I knocked that one on the head — and I was just like...If you can't be who you are...," Albarn said. "If I've invited someone, they're my guest and there aren't any conditions like that."

"And anyway, It's like I could go and have a cigarette outside if I needed it. You know, I'd be f**king excited and how could I not f**king go mad if I'm with Prince," he added. "So I'd rather not do it and not get pissed off with the whole thing. It's one of those could've beens. I've got a few of those."

Albarn recently confirmed a new album from the Gorillaz. The virtual band released two new songs — "Humility," which features jazz and soul icon George Benson, and "Lake Zurich." A music video for the former was also released, which features a cameo from Jack Black.
