The Lifetime biopic will star Emmy nominee Aunjanue Ellis and Raven Goodwin who previously starred in BET's Being Mary Jane.

The Clark Sisters are known for leaving an indelible mark on the music industry, recently, the first trailer for their upcoming Lifetime biopic has surfaced.

Executive producers on the project are Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliott with Sylvia L. Jones credited as writer, according to a previous report by Shadow and Act. First Ladies of Gospel reportedly will focus on the sisters rise in entertainment throughout the course of their lives. The first trailer introduces the cast as Emmy nominee Aunjanue Ellis who will play the sister's mother, Twinkie played by Christina Bell, Kierra Sheard as Karen, Sheléa Frazier as Dorinda, Raven Goodwin as Denise and Angela Birchett as Jacky.

The trailer depicts the groups origins in Detroit and follows their path to star status. A few distinct parts in the clip point to the first time they hit the Billboard charts and tension-filled moments pointing to ongoing conflict between the sisters and their mother who played a pivotal role in their success.

In a description for the film reported by Shadow and Act, the film is described as:

"The Clark Sisters: The First Ladies of Gospel recounts the story of the highest-selling female gospel group in history and their trailblazing mother, Mattie Moss Clark. Credited with bringing gospel music to the mainstream, the five Clark sisters overcame humble beginnings in Detroit, enduring abuse, loss, rejection, betrayal and sibling rivalries to achieve international fame as icons of the gospel music industry."

In the beginning of the clip, Kelly Rowland touches on the impact of the Clark Sisters. She describes the group as influential to past girl groups like Destiny's Child.

Rowland went on to share:

"Their music, their voices inspired me in a way that is just so deeply embedded and woven into the artist that I am today, for sure. They broke down barriers as far as sound is concerned, as far as style was concerned. But still they blended with gospel that made sense for them and they made it all their own. No one sounds like them."
