Chaka Khan Shades Mary. J Blige, Mariah Carey Over Rolling Stone's "Greatest Singers" List

While on The Originals, Chaka Khan shaded Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey and Adele in relation to the Rolling Stone 'Greatest Singers' list.

Chaka Khan doesn't condone having a lower placement than Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey and Adele on Rolling Stone's "200 Greatest Singers of All Time" list. While the 10-time Grammy-winning vocalist appeared recent episode of podcast The Originals, host Andrew Goldman congratulated Khan for her Rolling Stone inclusion.

“I didn’t even know what the hell you were talking about, so obviously this don’t mean a great deal to me,” she responded. “These people don’t quantify or validate me in any way.”

However, the 69-year-old was curious to hear who else was on the list. While she agreed with Aretha Franklin placement at #1 (“As she fucking should be”), she was jolted by Carey being at #5 (“That must be payola or some shit like that.”). When Khan – placed at #29 – heard of Adele's inclusion seven spots ahead of her at #22, she was completely floored (“Okay, I quit.”).

But the rift between Khan and Blige was seemingly revived when Goldman made the "I Feel for You" singer aware of Blige's placement at 25. "They are blind as a motherfucking bat! They need hearing aids…These must be the children of Helen Keller!” Khan pointed towards Rolling Stone editors.

Khan – who performed at Blige's inaugural Strength of A Woman Festival last May – once referred to her 1975 Rufus song "Sweet Thing" as “the song Mary J. Blige fucked up.” Blige covered the song on her 1992 debut What's the 411? The pair called a truce 15 years later, as Blige sang on Khan’s 2007 song, “Funk This.”
