‘The Breakfast Club’ Raises Nearly $1M For Harry Belafonte’s ‘Gathering for Justice’ Organization
Many of the donations from Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club came from regular listeners, Nick Cannon, Eminem, DJ Khaled, Diddy and more.
Harry Belafonte is a legend who has fought for us in numerous ways against racism, hatred and injustice. Last week, however, Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club aided in the battle against such negativity by raising money to further Belafonte’s “Gathering for Justice” organization with a hefty check to the tune of $825,789.92.
The show, which is hosted by DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God, raised the funds during their first ever “Change4Change Radiothon,” which was held last month in November. Many of the contributions came from the show’s regular listeners, several celebrities including Eminem, Cardi B, Ludacris, DJ Khaled, Diddy and Nick Cannon.
“We are radio personalities, but more importantly public servants to serve the needs of the public, because we’ve been seeing what the ‘Gathering for Justice’ movement has been doing for a long time,” Charlamagne Tha God explained in a video, which you can see yourself below. For those not yet in the know, “Gathering for Justice” was created by the iconic actor-activist in 2005 to prevent child incarceration, support social justice issues and champion for racial equality.
The organization backs such movements as The Women’s March, Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights group and the New York City Justice League.
