Black Thought‘s readying his off-Broadway debut.
According to a press release, The Roots frontman will star in an adaptation of George S. Schuyler’s 1931 novel, Black No More, from 12 Years A Slave producer, John Ridley. Though Thought’s role has yet to be revealed, the press release confirms he’ll also contribute original music to the production.
Scott Elliot will direct the treatment from Ridley, while Bill T. Jones handles the choreography and Daryl Waters oversees music supervision. Thought will be joined by co-stars, Jennifer Damiano, Theo Stockman, Brandon Victor Dixon, Tamika Lawrence, and Brandon Victor Dixon, in Black No More, which is slated to premiere in October 2020 at The Pershing Square Signature Center in NYC.
Black No More extends an already lengthy acting resume for the Philly rap legend, following appearances in The Duece, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and the James Brown biopic, Get On Up.
