The video, which was put together back in November, was directed by Black Grapefruit and produced by Not 97.

Amid a pandemic and protests centered around police brutality against Black people, it's even more necessary to have moments that provide some catharsis and joy from it all.

Black Grapefruit's "Waist" is an example of that. The music video, which Okayplayer is premiering, is a collage of video clips of people across the world dancing and singing along to the New York-based artist's song. Among those that make a cameo in the video is actor Zazie Beetz and Catfish co-host Kamie Crawford. The video, which was put together back in November, was directed by Black Grapefruit and produced by Not 97.

"Current events have reminded us how precious life is, and how fortunate we are to still have it. Regardless of how dark things get, our human and planetary existence is a miracle, which is why we must continue to fight for a world where it's recognized as such. This video means more than we could have ever anticipated when we started gathering the footage. It’s a reminder that we can share energy regardless of distance, and that we are all more connected than we sometimes realize," Black Grapefruit said in an e-mail.

Accompanying the music video is also a remix to "Waist." The original track was released on Black Grapefruit's 2019 EP Waist.

"We wondered if releasing a dance remix during such painful times might appear callous, but then it occurred to us that humans have been dancing through pain and turmoil since long before recorded music. With full respect for the moment, this is our creative offering. It's made from ceremonial, positive intention. We can only hope that it's movement somehow supports our collective and continued fight towards justice and healing," she said.
