Keeping steady in the wake of last week's full-length onslaught, Nappy Nina's The Tree Project, Kassa Overall's Got Get Ice Cream and Listen to Jazz — featuring one of the late Roy Hargrove's final recordings — and Toro y Moi's surprise Soul Trash micro-project, led the list of distinguished drops. But the singles were a force unto themselves.
J. Cole delivered the first single off the upcoming Dreamville compilation, Revenge of The Dreamers III. Emily King offered a final glimpse of her soon-to-arrive Scenery LP. Benny Sings shared a big bright yacht rock bop ahead of his Stones Throw debut. Blood Orange assisted Lolo Zouaï on a brooding, double-sided r&b experiment. Fiona Apple returned to the world only to haunt it on a duet with King Princess. Maxo blessed the dial with a marvelously murky new piece.
