The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Juicy" is the Greatest Hip-Hop Song of All Time According to New Poll

The list features contributions from over 100 critics from 15 countries, as well as hip-hop legends Slick Rick and Common.

The end-of-the-decade content season is slowly but surely approaching. BBC Music went with a broader approach, by releasing a list of the top 25 greatest hip-hop songs of all time. The list came from a poll that was conducted in which the publication asked more than 100 critics and experts. (Edit note: Okayplayer's managing Editor, Dimas Sanfiorenzo, and former Music Editor Ivie Ani contributed.) The list includes names like Eric B & Rakim, A Tribe Called Quest, Outkast, and the Wu-Tang Clan.

“Hip hop is a uniquely American art form that has become a global mainstream phenomenon,” Simon Frantz, Managing Editor of BBC Music said in a press release. “Forty years after "Rapper’s Delight" broke into the charts, hip-hop has become the voice for otherwise underrepresented groups in America and beyond. I think the tracks topping the poll show rap’s role in speaking truths. They’re also examples of deeply personal poetry, and an amazing playlist.”

Unsurprisingly, the list is heavily skewed towards the "golden era," as 14 of the top 25 tracks were released in the 1990s. Kanye West's "All of the Lights" and "Runaway," and Kendrick Lamar's "Alright" were the sole entrants from 2010 or later.
