August Greene Shares Behind-The-Scenes Look At The Making Of “Black Kennedy” [Premiere]

August Greene, the supergroup comprised of CommonKarriem Riggins, and Robert Glasper, presents a riveting behind-the-scenes look into the making of their song, "Black Kennedy."

The video is part ofGuitar Center’snew Deconstruct series, and grants viewers an intimate glimpse into the group's creative process— from songwriting and production, to the merging of Glasper and Riggins’ jazz instrumentation and Common's poetic bars. In the video, Glasper and Riggins take viewers into the studio with them to craft the song layer, by layer, answering those unspoken burning questions on inspiration and technique. "What, exactly, is the inspiration behind the song?" And, "What is Common's deliberate“mumble rapping” all about?"

"Black Kennedy," the dream-team's ode to a black utopian world, was the second single from off their critically-acclaimed eponymous debut album released in March.

The trio of Grammy-winning artists made their live debut in January at New York’s Highline Ballroom as part of Glasper’s sixth annual Grammy Awards party. August Greene formed this year after sharing the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for their song "Letter to the Free," which was a part of director Ava DuVernay’s 2016 Netflix documentary 13th.
