NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert returned this week with an electric performance from Anderson .Paak‘s backing band, Free Nationals.
Recorded the week before the nation went into lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the stage is a familiar one. Nestled into a packed corner of NPR HQ, the band runs through four selections from their self-titled debut album. The performance commences with singer India Shawn (filling in for Daniel Caesar) leading the group through “Beauty & Essex” and “On Sight.” All smiles and gratitude, .Paak steps into the frame and behind the kit for “Gidget,” warming up the in-house audience for Chronixx, who closes out the performance with “Eternal Light.”
Watch Free Nationals return to Tiny Desk with a star-studded crew in tow below. Their self-titled album is out now, featuring appearances from Syd, Kali Uchis, Westside Gunn, and the late Mac Miller. Grab a copy on vinyl via EMPIRE today.
