Make your work disappear on some Houdin shit.
For the last couple of years, there has been a selection of rappers who have been counter-culture: rappers that have embraced gritty, heavy, old school New York City-style rap over trap beats. Rappers like the Griselda crew from Buffalo; Atlanta’s Tha God Fahim; and Newark’s Mach Hommy.
Right with them is gruff Lawrence, Massachusetts rapper Al Divino. For years, Al has built a following by doing risky moves. (He once sold an album for $777.77.) Now he is teaming up with producer Raticus to drop a project called CRYPTEX Murderous Material. The album features appearances from Rome Streetz, Planet Asia, Mooch, REKS, and more.
The first single from the album is “Dysfunction.” We are pleased to premiere the video for the track, which is short but cuts through the bone. Speaking about the song, and how they collaborate, Raticus said:
Divino knows what he is looking for as far as his theme music. He has a unique vision for the feel and sound of it and he’s very adamant about that. I had sent him a ton of beats but it wasn’t until he said some keywords to me about how he likes his beats that made me go back to the drawing board and cook up from scratch. Within a few days I had the right formula and the result is uniquely him and a highlight in my catalogue.
