21 Savage Released On Bond, Deportation Hearing Pending
21 Savage is free for now.
After being arrested by ICE in Atlanta after the federal agency claimed that the rapper was unlawfully present in the United States as a UK citizen, 21 Savage has now been released on bond.
"21 Savage asked us to send a special message to his fans and supporters -- he says that while he wasn't present at the Grammy Awards, he was there in spirit and is grateful for the support from around the world and is more than ever, ready to be with his loved ones and continue making music that brings people together," Savage's lawyer Charles H. Kuck, as well as other lawyers Dina LaPolt and Alex Spiro (who Jay-Z and Roc Nation hired to assist on the case), said to TMZ.
"He will not forget this ordeal or any of the other fathers, sons, family members, and faceless people, he was locked up with or that remain unjustly incarcerated across the country. And he asks for your hearts and minds to be with them," the statement continued.
21 Savage's detainment with ICE stopped him from attending the 61st Grammy Awards last weekend. The rapper was nominated for two Grammys, including Record of the Year for "Rockstar," his collaboration with Post Malone.
Frequent Childish Gambino collaborator Ludwig Göransson acknowledged Savage's ICE detainment while accepting the award for Record of the Year for the Gambino song "This Is America," which Savage contributed ad-libs to. During his speech, Göransson said that the Atlanta rapper "should be here" at the Grammys.
