15 New Hip-Hop Albums You Should Listen To Right Now (Week Of April 16th)

This week’s crop of new albums include deluxe editions of past classics, compilation albums, and a slew of EPs.

Every week here at Okayplayer, we round up the best new albums for your listening pleasures. We understand that it’s tough to keep track of all the new music dropping these days, and we’re here to help.

This week’s round of new releases features rare remixes from Busta Rhymes’ debut album, a new album from Conway the Machine, compilation albums from Young Thug and Zaytoven, and a plethora of debuts. Find all your favorites on your preferred digital streaming platform.

Conway the Machine — La Maquina

It’s only been a few months since we got new music from the Griselda collective, but considering their output in 2020, that’s a noticeable absence. Conway returns with his first release of the year, with a little help from stars like 2 Chainz as well as Griselda newcomers like Jae Skeese.

Young Thug and YSL’s — Slime Language 2

Young Thug assumes the CEO role to take his second shot at a compilation album with Slime Language 2. Cameos include YSL regulars like Yak Gotti and Lil Duke, as well as major names like Drake and Lil Uzi Vert.

Busta Rhymes — The Coming (25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)

Busta Rhymes honors the 25th anniversary of his debut with brand-new remastered audio, instrumentals, and hard-to-find remixes including J Dilla remixes of “Woo Hah! Got You All in Check.”

Jacquees — QueMix 4

Love him or hate him, Jacquees’ QueMix series will do numbers regardless. This time around, he recruits DJ Drama to make the occasion the latest in the Gangsta Grillz series.

Zaytoven & Fo15 — Zaytoven Presents: Fo15 Zaytoven

Zaytoven is one of the pioneers of Atlanta’s trap sound, but the multiplatinum superproducer actually hails from the Bay Area. On Fo15, Zay returns to his roots, celebrating 4/15 Day with local upstarts ZayBang, Lil Bean, Lil Yee, and many more.

LUCKI — Almost Woke

Chicago stalwart Lucki drops an insular two-track offering EP for fans, and on Twitter promised “hot shit coming like the summer.” Perhaps this is just the prelude to a full-length project.

Vince Ash — VITO (Deluxe Edition)

Hammond, Indiana MC Vince Ash made waves in 2018 with his understated yet bludgeoning debut Do or Die. In 2020, he followed it up with Vito. On Friday, he dropped the deluxe edition of the project, featuring production from Sledgren, Polyester the Saint, and Fredwreck.

Upon his release from Warner Records, DIY-trap-emo audio auteur iLoveMakonnen returns with My Parade, a surprise album he described in a statement as “having your own parade even if the world is raining down on it.”

DJ Megan Ryte — DJ Megan Ryte

Hot 97 DJ Megan Ryte spent the better part of three years making her self-titled album, and the product is a blending of unlikely pairs, genres, coasts, cultures. The Virginia native puts Alabama crooner Yung Bleu alongside Wyclef Jean, Guapdad 4000 next to Flipp Dinero, and Young MA with Skillibeng just in time for what should be a raucous summer.

Caleb Brown — Nevaeh: A Memoir

Baton Rouge MC Caleb Brown worked four years on Nevaeh: A Memoir. The project is an exploration of his own roots featuring production from Grammy-nominated producers Mike & Keys and My Guy Mars.

Gucci Mane’s new 1017 Records roster keeps getting bigger. After his appearances on his SoIcyBoyz compilation album, Memphis MC (and cousin of Pooh Shiesty) Big Scarr drops his debut project with some help from his labelmates.

Blog era alumnus Yelawolf has always cited Three 6 Mafia’s influence on his music. On Slumafia, he links up with half of the legendary group (as well as Hypnotize Camp Posse member Gangsta Boo) for an 8-track project.

Nebu Kiniza — Back2Lyfe

Atlanta-via-Queens MC Nebu Kiniza returns with a seven-track EP, his first project since 2018. Guests include Lil Tecca, Lil Keed, Future, and Young Nudy. Kiniza handles the bulk of the project’s production, save two tracks.
