Zoë Kravitz Blasts Hulu for Lack of Diversity Following ‘High Fidelity’ Cancellation

“It’s cool. At least Hulu has a ton of other shows starring women of color we can watch. Oh wait.”

It’s been a rough week for fans of Hulu‘s High Fidelity adaptation.

On Thursday, the streamer announced it was pulling the plug on the Zoë Kravitz-led series after just one season. Celebrity and pedestrian fans alike reeled over the cancelation on Twitter, but Kravitz, the show’s star, directed her sentiments first to the High Fidelity cast and crew.

“Thank you for all the love and heart you put into this show. I’m in awe of all of you,” Kravitz wrote in an Instagram post with assorted shots from the set. But in the comment section, responding to Tessa Thompson’s condolences, Kravitz sent a shot at Hulu over the streamer’s lack of black women leads. “It’s cool. At least Hulu has a ton of other shows starring women of color we can watch. Oh wait,” Kravitz sarcastically noted. And it’s not the first time the streamer has been called out for a lack of diversity in its programming. Although it recently launched a “Black Stories” vertical, the overwhelming majority of Hulu’s licensed and original content have no women of color in leading roles.

You can read Zoë Kravtiz’s post below. Watch out for her DC cinematic universe debut as Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming take on the caped crusader, The Batman, which is currently slated for an October 2021 premiere.
