On October 29th, fans can get their hands on a vinyl copy of Dave Chappelle‘s George Floyd-inspired stand-up special 8:46. On Friday, Chappelle and Third Man Records announced that they would be teaming up to press 846 copies of red, black, and green 12-inch vinyl records of the special. Proceeds from vinyl sales will be donated to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C., Chappelle’s alma mater. Pre-order a copy at Third Man Records‘ official website. Fans in Detroit and Nashville can get a copy at Third Man storefronts. Sales are first-come, first-served.
“When I was a student at Duke Ellington, the teachers instilled in me the notion of activism through art,” Chappelle said in a press release. “We need more soldiers for great causes on the stage.”
The vinyl’s B-side also features Amir Sulaiman’s performance of “My Insides Out” and “We Must Win,” two tracks also recorded in Ohio during Chappelle’s socially-distanced special. Additionally, the project concludes with an 8-minute-and-46 second moment of silence, simply titled “White Noise.” The vinyl package will also include backstage photos from the event, as well as various protests in Los Angeles, shot by photographer Mathieu Bitton.
On June 8th, Chappelle will release the latest episode of “Midnight Miracle,” the Luminary-exclusive podcast he hosts alongside yasiin bey and Talib Kweli. The new episode will feature music by Heatwave and Ennio Morricone. The podcast’s first episode featured Detroit MC Sada Baby.
