Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Secures Lead Role in 'Matrix 4'

The Aquaman star "emerged as a frontrunner to join to join Keanu Reeves."

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, star of Aquaman has landed a lead role in the new Matrix 4 film. According to Variety, sources have shared that director Lana Wachowski "had been meeting with actors for the secret role over the last week." Recently, Abdul-Mateen "emerged as the frontrunner to join Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, who will be reprising their roles in the film."

Back in August, Warner Bros. announced that a fourth Matrix movie was "officially in the works" and that Reeves and Moss would be returning. Wachowski is reportedly on board to write and direct. Additionally, the script was also written by Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell. Variety also reports that the film could be set to begin production at the beginning of 2020.

At the moment plot details are unknown and sources close to the movie wouldn't confirm Abdul-Mateen's role. Recently Yahya played a role in Jordan Peele's Us and also played a character in Netflix's Black Mirror. He is also set to appear in HBO’s Watchmen and landed the lead role in the Peele-produced Candyman out in 2020.
