The True-Life Story Of A Woman Who Won A Date With Prince Is Becoming A Movie

Source: YouTube

A film based on the true story of how a woman from Wyoming won a contest that involved a date with Prince is in the works.

Titled Queen for a Day, the movie will tell the true-life story of Lisa Barber, a resident of Sheridan, Wyoming. Barber won a contest where she was able to go on a date with Prince, as well as have the iconic Purple Rain musician perform a concert and host a film screening in Sheridan.

However, according to a report from Deadline, the focus of the movie will be on how the event came together. Prince won’t even be a character in the film.

“The movie will focus on the herculean effort that went into organizing an event that brought the 5’3″ purple-clad rock icon to a small cowboy town and established his date as a reluctant media sensation,” Deadline reported.

Elizabeth Banks is set to portray Barber. The story is based on an article the Daily Beast published last year, “When Prince Made a Chambermaid His Queen For a Day.”

In related news, Erykah Badu recalled the time when Prince criticized her for her third albumWorldwide Underground.

“I remember I came out with an album called Worldwide Underground. He came to one of my shows. I got in the limo with him and he said, ‘Now look, that’s not nothing.’ I was like, ‘What?’ He said, ‘That ain’t finished, that’s not nothing, you need to come on with it now. Whatchu doin’, whatchu doin’?’” Badu recounted on Stretch and Bobbito’s What’s Good podcast. “I was like ‘Oh, well, It’s just a process. It’s just like a little demo.’ He said, ‘It sure is.’”

“…Other than talking about that music from Worldwide Underground, which he did not care for too much, we really didn’t talk about music too much,” she added.
