A 'Joker' Sequel is on the Way, Todd Phillips & Joaquin Phoenix are Both Set to Return
There also might be more DC Origin stories on the way from director Todd Phillips.
Warner Bros. is officially moving forward with a Joker sequel, according to a new report from the Hollywood Reporter. Todd Phillips, who directed the Joker and wrote it alongside Scott Silver, will be returning for the sequel. Joaquin Phoenix, who has gotten Oscar buzz around his portrayal, would also return.

An interesting thing revealed in the profile: after Joker's massive $96 million openings, Phillips walked into the office and pitched a series "of DC characters’ origin stories." DC didn't bite fully on this idea. Instead, they offered him the rights to one more movie.

Joker has grossed over a billion dollars globally. Because of the movie's budget — around $60 million — the movie is officially the most profitable comic book movie of all time.
