If you’ve followed Andrew Yang‘s campaign over the last few months, you may have scratched your head a few times over the amount of attention his 2020 presidential bid has received. Particularly, in terms of his endorsements from Donald Glover and, more recently, Dave Chappelle.
But according to a recent interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, securing his biggest co-sign to date came down to a commitment to their families. Yang told the late-night host he and the comedic legend connected over a commitment to their children. “He’s a parent, I’m a parent. And we both are really concerned about the way the country is going,” said Yang. He adds, “We want to be able to do better and say to our kids we did everything we could to actually leave a country we’re proud of for them.”
Chappelle’s endorsement is more than just sentimental or ideological. The comedian is slated to perform at a pair of Yang’s events in South Carolina this month, while Glover is taking on a creative consulting role, designing new #YangGang merchandise for the campaign trail.
