'Watchmen' Cast Dominates the 2020 Emmy Field With 26 Nominations

HBO's Watchmen adaptation earned nominations for casting, cinematography, and more.

On Tuesday, the Television Academy released the full list of nominees for the upcoming 72nd Emmy Awards. Via livestream, Saturday Night Live actress Leslie Jones and Laverne Cox of Orange is the New Black announced the nominees. HBO's limited series Watchmencleaned up with 26 total nominations.

The miniseries earned nominations for Outstanding Casting For A Limited Series, Outstanding Music Composition, and landed three separate episodes in the Outstanding Directing category. Read a list of nominees below.

Regina King earned a nomination for Outstanding Actress for her role as Angela Abar. Jeremy Irons, who played Adrian Veidt, also known as Ozymandias, was nominated for Outstanding Actor. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who played Cal Abar (Dr. Manhattan) scored a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

"This is real!" he wrote to his followers on Instagram. "I just got nominated for an Emmy, y'all! Feels so good to be acknowledged for my work by The Academy and my peers. Thank you so much!"

Additionally, Issa Rae's Insecure earned a nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series. Rae's character will face off against black-ish's Tracee Ellis Ross, Dead to Me's Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's Rachel Brosnahan, and Schitt's Creek's Catherine O'Hara for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Yvonne Orji also earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Jimmy Kimmel will host the virtual Emmy Awards September 20th on ABC.
