Last year, The Obamas inked a massive deal with Netflix to produce seven upcoming titles for the streaming giant.
Today, a trailer for their first project, American Factory, has been released. According to an early synopsis from the announcement of the deal, the documentary centers on a GM factory in Ohio that closed in 2008, only to be bought by a Chinese auto-glass manufacturer and reopened in 2014 with a handful of imported workers and about half the factory’s original roster of locals, offering equal service to both groups of workers and the increasingly complex state of Midwestern manufacturing.
The trailer’s arrival follows on the heels of a critically-lauded festival run for the film, taking home the award for Best Directing for US Documentary at Sundance earlier this year.
American Factory hits Netflix on August 21st.
