Watch the Trailer for Forthcoming Nike Drama 'Air'

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reteam for Air, a forthcoming drama on the rise Nike and Air Jordan sneakers in the 1990s.

The story of Michael Jordan's partnership with Nike is coming to theaters this year. On Thursday (February 9), a first trailer for the upcoming Ben Affleck-directed drama, Air, released, starring the aforementioned alongside Matt Damon, Viola Davis, Chris Tucker, Marlon Wayans, Jason Bateman and more. Also appearing during the Super Bowl LVII this week, Air centers Nike's pursuit of Jordan in the 1990s, making the former Chicago Bulls player a spokesperson for the Air Jordan brand.

“This moving story follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of her son’s immense talent, and the basketball phenom who would become the greatest of all time,” reads the film's summary.

In the trailer, Damon portrays sports marketing executive Sonny Vaccaro, while Affleck takes the role of Nike co-founder Phil Knight. Davis plays Michael Jordan's mother, Deloris Jordan, while Julius Tennon plays Jordan's late father, James R. Jordan Sr. The film shows Vaccaro pursuing Jordan after Nike has faced a "tough year," to make the brand "cool" again. While scouting the up-and-coming NBA star, Vaccaro also comes face-to-face with Jordan's parents, specifically Deloris, who shows hesitance at Jordan joining Nike. Jordan's character is noticeably absent from the trailer, although one scene shows him walking in with his parents to meet Nike executives.

Air will premiere on April 5 in 3,000 select theaters in the U.S., later having streaming accessibility in more than 240 countries.
