Directed by Allen Hughes of filmmaking team The Hughes Brothers, upcoming FX docuseries Dear Mama will center Tupac and Afeni Shakur.

Mother's Day might be over, but FX is honoring the mother-son relationship between Tupac and Afeni Shakur. On Sunday, the television network teased upcoming docuseries Dear Mama, directed by Allen Hughes of The Hughes Brothers.

Titled after Tupac's 1995 classic "Dear Mama," the five-part series follows the relationship between the Afeni Shakur, activist and former Black Panther and Tupac – also stylized as 2Pac – who is long revered as hip-hop icon over two decades after his untimely death in September 1996.

“It was my responsibility to teach 2Pac how to survive his reality,” Afeni Shakur says in the teaser. “So, 2Pac do something wrong, take your little sorry self in that corner, get the New York Times and let’s have a debate about it. Not a discussion, a debate. Let me hear what your idea is, stand up, defend it.”

"Told through the eyes of the people who knew them best, Dear Mama is an intimate wide-angle portrait of the most inspiring and dangerous mother-son duo in American history, whose unified message of freedom, equality, persecution and justice are more relevant today than ever," FX explains on the series' page.

Twenty years after Tupac's death, Afeni Shakur died after going into cardiac arrest in May 2016. She was 69-years-old.

Along with directing 90's Black cinema classics Menace II Society and Dead Presidents with his twin brother, Albert Hughes, Allen Hughes last directed four-part Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine docuseries The Defiant Ones for HBO in 2017.

Dear Mama premieres this fall.
