Watch the new teaser for That Damn Michael Che.

After four years as head writer of Saturday Night Live, Michael Che is bringing his sketch comedy chops to HBO Max.

The streamer announced the comedian's upcoming series,That Damn Michael Che, will premiere on May 6th in a new trailer. Scored by Ghostface Killah and BADBADNOTGOOD's "Sour Soul," the 45-second teaser glimpses some of the show's scripted vignettes and Che's background commentary, as well as cameos from The Wire's Lawrence Gilliard Jr. and Che's SNL co-star, Cecily Strong.

According to a press release, the show will also feature appearances from Colin Jost, Heidi Gardner, Colin Quinn, Method Man, Billy Porter, Omari Hardwick, and others. SNL creator, Lorne Michaels, serves as an executive producer on the six-part series along with Che and Oz Rodriguez, who directed all episodes of the show and Che's 2016 stand-up special, Michael Che Matters. The HBO Max series marks a rare non-network gig for the comedian since signing on as a main cast member and writer at Saturday Night Live in 2017 when he took over as co-anchor of the show's consistently great Weekend Update segment.

The series arrives as the latest addition to a gradually expanding original comedy slate from HBO Max. The streaming service was set to revive Aaron McGruder's acclaimed animated series, The Boondocks, for two new seasons and a special. However, production has been plagued by delays in the wake of comedian John Witherspoon's death and, you know, the whole pandemic thing. The show is now on the calendar for 2022, per a recent post on Instagram.
