Questlove Honors Hip-Hop by Slapping TikTok Rappers on Saturday Night Live

The Roots drummer put one up for hip-hop in a hilarious Saturday Night Live debut.

Saturday Night Live welcomed Questlove to the set last night to slap some sense into a pair of TikTok rappers.

Guest-starring in the standout "Rap Roundtable" sketch, the Roots drummer appeared alongside Punkie Johnson's Queen Latifah as a corrective force in the lives of two young rappers, Guaplord and $mokecheddathaassgetta (portrayed by Pete Davidson and the evening's host, Timothy Chalamet,) who couldn't respond to questions with more than their own adlibs and barely spoke in complete sentences. As tensions mounted throughout the segment, Questlove and Latifah grew increasingly confused by the responses of Guap and $moke. But it reached a fever pitch when the rappers started performing their hit song, "Yeet," during the discussion, summoning a rare fury in the Roots drummer.

Last night's episode was the penultimate outing of 2020. Chalamet was joined by musical guest, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band. The episode also offered soul legend, Dionne Warwick, her own talk show following a viral round of tweets from the singer last week.

Next week, the show will return for one last run before the year's close with SNL alum, Kristen Wiig, returning to host and Dua Lipa serving as musical guest. Wiig's return to Studio 8H will arrive just ahead of her appearance in Wonder Woman: 1984, which is the first of dozens of Warner Bros. films slated to stream on HBO Max on the same day as their theatrical premieres.
