“I want y’all to understand, when people are kneeling and putting their fists up in the air and doing what they’re doing, it’s not about the flag, it’s about justice,” the 4:44 rapper said in a video (via TMZ). “It’s about injustice. And that’s not a black or white thing, it’s a human issue.”
Two weeks ago Jay-Z addressed Houston Texans owner Bob McNair‘s controversial remark comparing NFL players protesting during the national anthem to prison inmates.
“[They’re] injuring themselves on the field, giving it all they got. That’s how they look at you. That’s what they think about you,” Jay-Z said before performing an acapella version of “The Story of O.J.” in Anaheim, California. “We got so much further to go. The truth is we all believe in whatever you believe in. God, Allah. Whatever you believe in, we come from one source which means we are all brothers and sisters at the end of the day.”
The rapper and entrepreneur has also spoken out against Meek Mill’s recent prison sentence. The philadelphia rapper received a two to four year prison sentence for violating his probation.
“He caught a charge when he was, like, 19. He’s 30 now, he’s been on probation for 11 years. Fucking 11 years,” Jay-Z said during a live performance at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. “Judge gave him two to four years because he got arrested for being on a bike and popping a fucking wheelie.”
