Watch Chadwick Boseman Rule Over A Wakandan-Fueled ‘Saturday Night Live’
Chadwick Boseman might not be known for comedy, but the highest-grossing superhero rose to meet expectations and showcased his talents in a major way.
Chadwick Boseman isn’t known for comedy. He hasn’t had a film that showcases his comedic timing. Yet, during last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live, the highest-grossing superhero held his own amongst the “Not Ready For Primetime Players” with a solid showing in multiple sketches.
Saturday Night Live did its job by building out skits that utilized Boseman’s strength and talents as an actor rather than making him out to clown and be crazy, which may be outside his purview. As is customary with the show, Boseman delivered a sturdy, self-aware monologue that contained half-joking references to Black Panther, a beat about Leslie Jones pitching a sketch where she has a lot of sex with the Wakandan king, and a deep dig at our current president, Donald Trump.
Elsewhere on the show, Boseman took part in two Black Panther sketches that were smart and very funny. “Wakanda Forever” dealt with the awkwardness of seeing white people do the popular salute after seeing the movie and how it pains black people to the core of their soul. And “Black Jeopardy,” which returns after a three week pardon, where Boseman reprises his role as T’Challa as he regally attempts to relate to black American culture and tropes.
All in all, from Boseman as T’Challa talking about “bland-ass potato salad” to him portraying a doctor who hopes that his pregnant male patient doesn’t “tulip” a baby out of his nether-regions — the Wakanda chieftain made Saturday Night Live one for the books. If you missed it, don’t worry, we got you covered as you can watch Boseman’s performances below.
