Vince Staples & Kenya Barris Are Teaming Up For a Netflix Comedy Series

Executive produced by Kenya Barris, Vince Staples will star in eponymous scripted comedy series The Vince Staples Show.

Vince Staples is taking his Long Beach origins to Netflix. On Tuesday (September 6), Netflix announced that The Vince Staples Show will be coming to the streamer, loosely based of Staples’ life in the LBC.

Those executive producing the show include Kenya Barris, Calmatic, Ian Edelman, Maurice Williams and Staples’ longtime manager Corey Smyth. The series is also named after Staples’ 2019 two-episode YouTube series, which had cameos from Buddy and Ray J.

“I am excited to partner with Netflix and Kenya Barris on ‘The Vince Staples Show,’” said Staples. “This has been something I have been developing for some time and I am happy it’s coming to fruition.”

“It’s our mission to work with the best artists in the world,” added Tracey Pakosta, Netflix’s head of comedy. “Vince has already established himself as one of the most talented young musicians today and we’re really excited about how his sensibility – and sense of humor – will translate into a unique comedy series.”

Staples released his fifth album Ramona Park Broke My Heart in April while wrapping up the Call Me If You Get Lost Tour with Tyler, the Creator, Kali Uchis and Teezo Touchdown. In August, he held ‘A Walk Through Ramona Park’ Amazon Music livestream at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles. During the 90-minute set, the Long Beach rapper performed fan favorites including “Big Fish,” “Fun,” “Blue Suede” and “Norf Norf” before ending with DJ Mustard-produced “Magic.”
