Turns Out Robert Pattinson Also Struggled With His 'Batman' Voice

The Batman star Robert Pattinson stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! and revealed he had trouble perfecting the gruff Batman voice.

As we approach next month's global premiere of Matt Reeves-directed of The Batman, star Robert Pattinson continues to make the rounds. On Wednesday, Pattinson made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to talk about his titular character. While joking about trying on all four eras of the previous Batman suits, Pattinson also revealed that he had trouble coming up with his own signature Batman voice for the role.

“Everyone does this kind of gruff, gravelly thing, and I’m like, I’m going to do the opposite. I’m gonna go really whispery,” Pattinson told Kimmel. “And I tried to do it for the first two weeks, and it just looked absolutely atrocious, and they told me to stop doing it.”

He also discovered that former 'Dark Knight' Christian Bale attempted the same thing.

“I found out from Nick [Derington], who was putting me in the suit every day, that’s what Christian Bale did on Batman Begins as well," Pattinson continued. “And if you listen to the first Batman Beginsteaser trailer, you can hear the original voice. I only found this out a couple of weeks ago. It's kind of interesting."

Once he found the right cadence, Pattinson equated it to filling Batman's shoes. "It's funny, it's something you can feel when it feels right. There's something [when] you put the suit on and you have to speak in a certain way," he said.

Earlier in the interview, Kimmel commended Pattinson's performance in The Batman sharing that "There's nothing worse than being a bad Batman," and "there's no bigger disaster than that."

"That's what everyone keeps telling me!" Pattinson responded. "They're like, you know, 'If all fails, you've still been part of something really special.' And I'm like, 'I don't want to be the worst one! Like, that's what I'm remembered for."

At two hours and 47 minutes without end credits, The Batman will premiere on March 4th.
