"It was a point-blank punk move."

Spike Lee has joined the wave of entertainers and athletes denouncing Roger Goodell's apology for the NFL's handling of kneeling protests spurred by blacklisted quarterback, Colin Kaepernick.

During an interview on The View, Lee referred to the NFL commissioner's apology as "piss poor" for failing to take accountability for the position it put Kaepernick in, not once even mentioning the former 49ers quarterback's name in a statement on behalf the league. In another chat on a press run for his new film, Da 5 Bloods, (out now on Netflix,) the director told Trevor Noah that he has no doubt of Trump's influence over the league's response, citing the president's claim that Kaepernick was "unpatriotic" for refusing to stand during the national anthem.

Elsewhere in his chat with The Daily Show host, Lee noted the positive impacts of protests against police brutality and systemic racism across the globe and in every U.S. state. "We have to keep this energy," Lee tells Noah. He adds, "Register to vote, [then] vote, and celebrate when the numbers come in. Like our brother Prince said, 'we’re gonna party like it’s 1999.' I’m telling you, there's gonna be some of the biggest parties ever."
