Space Jam 2 is officially in the book. After months of assembling a powerhouse roster to support Lebron James in the starring slot, Warner Bros. has announced a landing date. According to Variety, the Space Jam sequel is set for a July 16, 2021 release in theaters.

The film will be directed by Terence Nance (Random Acts of Flyness, An Oversimplification of Her Beauty, and Swimming in Your Skin Again) and executive produced by Ryan Coogler (currently developing another anxiously-anticipated sequel.) Though it’ll mark his major acting debut (following an appearance as himself in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck,) James has been intimately involved in Space Jam 2 since 2015, when his production company, SpringHill Entertainment, signed a deal with Warner Bros.
Sadly, there’s been no word of any other casting. Your guess for The Monstars of 2021 is as good as ours. But here’s hoping Bill Murray’s got a reprisal in him. Stay tuned (tooned?) for updates in the months ahead.
