Solange Releases ‘When I Get Home’ Director’s Cut to Criterion Channel

Solange releases bonus content in honor of the album’s two-year anniversary.

Monday, March 1, 2021 marked the two-year anniversary of Solange‘s fourth studio album When I Get Home. In honor of the milestone, Solange and The Criterion Channel have announced the release of a remastered, extended director’s cut for the album’s accompanying performance art film. Stream the bonus material over at The Criterion Channel.

In addition to the new material, Solange will participate in a number of digital activations via her Blackplanet page. Keep an eye on her profile throughout the week for special screenings of various performances, art installations inspired by the album, and a digital quilt personally curated by Solange. The quilt is made up of fan-submitted images and stories about the album’s impact on their life.

The short film is an introspection on the question “Where is home?” Throughout the project, Solange “explores concepts of origin, fear, safety and reclamation through the power of ancestral roots and the creation of one’s own kaleidoscopic universe.” Through imagery of Solange’s hometown of Houston, Texas combined with “flights of surrealism,” the project is a moving introduction to Afrofuturism.

Since the album’s release, Solange has performed at the Sydney Opera House, the Guggenheim Museum, the Venice Biennale’s 58th International Art Exhibition and Los Angeles’ Getty Museum. When I Get Home boasted production from Pharrell Williams, Metro Boomin, Standing on the Corner, Steve Lacy and more.

Stay tuned for further updates on the When I Get Home anniversary celebrations. When I Get Home is available for streaming on all digital streaming platforms.
